Fresh & Raw – Where You Find Your Favorite Music.
Loop Central – Fresh & Raw is a program that introduces music, images, and contents towards young Vietnamese artists. The show is where Vietnamese listeners and electronic music fans can enjoy the mix set and read exclusive interviews; where artists can share their stories, styles, and images through music. Besides, Fresh & Raw is a place for Vietnamese audience to discover the variety of EDM and from there welcome new artists and new music wave.
The meaning behind the name Fresh & Raw: The combination of two adjectives used to describe things which are new but not complete, just like the young artists in Vietnam. They are people with many talents and potentials but not yet widely-known; they have not been fully supported by the Vietnamese audience as well as the entertainment industry. With Fresh & Raw, Loop Central hopes that our beloved audience can find the “rough gems”, and to create a premise for these artists to practice and improve their identity in both Vietnamese and international eyes.
Fresh & Raw: Interview with TGSN
Who is TGSN?
As a Hanoi-an young boy, TGSN (Tung Son) started his music career in 2016, with the guidance of a forerunner, itsnk, who later became his colleague at CDSL Art Collective.
In 2018, after a number of remixes, TGSN started impressing fans with his debut series such as “The Space Between Us”, “2-nght” (featuring Ngơ); not to be missed are the two hits “Lollipop” (featuring Ng, nân) and “Take Care” (featuring hnhngan, HaiSam). Continuing on his path of passion, TGSN launched two new products in 2019 entitled “Fall for You” (ft.prettyXIX & Rem) and “Fool for You” (feat. Rem & hairan). Along with that, his first music video made by Duc Viet and the CDSL team was also released. The music products that TGSN composed are often associated with a personal love story of him. For this young talent, simplicity and uniqueness are always the two most important factors.
Chat with TGSN
1. What is your music inspiration? And what has brought you to music and producing?
Things inspire my music the most are normally from my personal love life. In 2016, I happened to meet and talk to an old friend who came to the same middle school with me. That was when I got encouraged to discover more about music productions and started to learn how to use FL Studio software. After that, my brother Khánh (itsnk) introduced Ableton to me. It was so cool so I switched to using Ableton until now.
2. I have listened to many of your products and found most of them are R&B and hip-hop. Is this what you want to be identified as your music color?
Right now, yes, I’m pursuing contemporary R&B and hip-hop. But I’m not sure this will be my main color in the future because I always want to explore and innovate. Basically, I’m just doing what I’m into.
3. Among all the song you’ve made, can you pick your most favorite and share the story behind it?
My favorite product is probably a song I haven’t released yet, inspired by my love story as always. The thing is, I used to use tinder and got match with this person who was both a singer and a songwriter. We would only talked about music on tinder, then I produced a song and invited her to collab right in that week.
The song also appears in my mix for this episode of Fresh & Raw, and it will be the next music product that I am planning to release this year.
4. Which part do you first start with when producing a song? What DAW (digital audio workstation) do you use to produce it?
For a song, I usually start with the chord (chord) because this is what determines the mood of the song. Back then, I was tinkering on FL Studio software but now I use Ableton Live to make my music.
5. In the future, what do you hope to achieve in your music career and who do you want to collaborate with most?
My goal is to bring my music to the world. The artist I want to work with in the future is probably Post Malone.
